Warren Perry, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, holds graduate degrees in medieval literature and creative writing from the University of Memphis and in drama from The Catholic University of America. His one-man shows on Walt Whitman and Lyndon B. Johnson have been produced by the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery Cultures in Motion project (2006, 2007) and he was a writer and researcher for the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery from 2001-2014. Warren's one-man play, Swift to My Wounded: Walt Whitman and the Civil War, was published by the Smithsonian in 2009. He is the editor of Echoes of Elvis: The Cultural Legacy of Elvis Presley (Smithsonian Scholarly Press, 2012) and a co-author of Elvis 1956: Photographs by Alfred Wertheimer, which received the Foreword Book Reviews Bronze Award for music writing in 2010.
